Close up Amanda Lynn Stubley

For The Folk – an end of an era!

After 8 years of hosting a weekly radio show on CHRW Radio Western, Amanda Lynn is hanging up her headphones! She took over For The Folk from our friend and colleague Allison Brown, and although it has been wonderful, the time has come.  Her last show is Wednesday, September 19, at 8:30pm and you can tune in at 94.9 FM, or stream it at www.radiowestern.ca/stream.

Her two last shows were ones to remember! For her last show, she played some very special music, gave shoutout to lots of folks, and generally had a great time! For her second-to-last show, she invited celebrated Canadian folk music producer Paul Mills to join her as a “Neighbour and Friend” cohost. Together they played some of the songs that Paul produced over the course of 45 years.  You can hear both episodes here:

Are you a great lover of For The Folk?  Never fear! The show will continue, with host Justin D’Croix – but it’s moving to Tuesdays at 2pm.

Folklorist Songwriter?

Each one of The Heartaches has a different focus in life.  In recent years, Amanda Lynn has focused on on songwriting and branching out as a solo artist, as well as  performing in duet with Martin.

As a folklorist and radio DJ, Amanda Lynn has spent much of the past 10 years immersing herself in the nuances of traditional stringband music. Recently, however, the songwriting muse has been knocking on her door, and she’s doing her best to apply what she’s learned to an emerging repertoire.

In 2017, she boldly set out to make a recording, and released the EP Gem, in 2017,  with a barnburner of a party at The SoHo Bar and Grill.

Gem earned Amanda Lynn a nomination in the folk / roots category of the 2017 Jack Richardson London Music Awards, and charted at college radio stations across Canada.  Amanda Lynn earned a coveted spot as a performer and emerging artist at the 2017  Home County Music And Art Festival. In 2018 both she and The Heartaches were thrilled to perform as a part of Home County.

Amanda Lynn Stubley – Banjo Pickin’ Girl

Banjo Pickin’ Girl, from the release of my EP GEM back in March 2017. Fun times!
Lily May Ledford made this song famous for me and many other folks in the 1940s with the Coon Creek Girls.
